Jun 21, 2015· Laid the ball screw in the vises and used a support stand on the long end. Then I tightened the 2nd vise on the bolt hex head and clamped the vise to the mill table. Did some easy math for depth and milled one side, then turned the shaft to the next side of the head, tightened the 2nd vise, etc., etc. Then filed the shape corners and it was done.

I checked how straight one of the flats were with a .0001 indicator, and the needle didn't move .0001. I wonder how big the hex has to be to show a significantly non-flat side?

I recommend using layout fluid and a scribe to locate where you are going to drill. I used a center drill and a mill to accurately drill my holes. A drill press will work too.
